burn off season

Harvest is almost over and that means the burn off season begins.

I love it when the farmers burn their fields.

Well I don't love all the smoke
but they are pretty good at choosing their days
when the wind is slight and blowing across the land rather than the road.
Not too many roads around here to worry about.

It does smell good though.

Henery my coordinator is in the local
volunteer fire brigade and
I swear those guys (and girls)
live for burn off season.

Over the weekend there were three
well controlled fires that converged.

But three fires together during the night
light up the sky like nobodies business,
except that obviously someone made it their business
and called the Volunteer Fire Brigade.
They loved it.

I came home

early today feeling a bit sicky again.

But happy day!
The burned out house next door has being pulled down.
Down to the ground.

Though that photo looks weird,
the sky and the house are too similar a colour I think.

Mags reckon the rats and mice holding hands as
they were fleeing the house towards ours.

She has active imagination.

I suggested she call the Pied Piper of Hamlin.

This was Oscar the dwarfs house that he and his brothers lived in
as they grew older,
They build it, it was their home, now it's rubble.
They died a while ago but many people my age remember
how Oscar used to sit at his gate,
which is my gate now,
and jump out and shout at the passing kids.
Sneaky dwarfs must scare the pants off kids.
Oscar was not popular.

The last residents moved on after the fire in December.
Some are still in town and they stopped by to see what had happened.
I feel sorry for them, they lost all their possessions and had no insurance.

But man am I happy they have moved on.
Noisy little beggars.

Show Day storm

At 9.24am this very morning a jet engine of a southerly wind started up and by 9.27 the my lovely blue sky with fluffy white clouds disappeared behind the low grey, endless clouds. The temp dropped and so by 9.35 I was up and putting the fire on. It's November for goodness sakes!

Now I'm sitting inside beneath a low grey cloud cause the wind is blowing down my chimney and my kent fire is puffing like a dragon. It freezing, my window are open (but not those on the south side) and all I can think is "Yes! I knew I was right not to get up and clean the fly poop of my kitchen ceiling!" its gonna need bleaching by the end of today anyway!

What a choice - cold or smokey??? I like breathing but how do you stop the fire? Besides I was warned a storm was coming by the Fisherman, well he said southerly but that means storm around here. Seriously, I'm starting to cry now! can..not...see....the..*cough*...screen!...am....chocking...*cough*..am...going...to ..have...to...escape..*cough*cough*...but...not...before........
