NLP me!

my big but fascinating distraction has been completing
my Neuro Linguistic Programming course.
I did my course with
Richard and Patricia Greenhough of Lifetime Learning.
Lovely, competent people who invite you in to
their home for three days a month,
three very long days each month for six months.
And it flew by.
Each month I became more and more skilled at the exercises and tools to enhance human excellence. Just doing the course it's self has made me more centred person who has a stronger concept of who I am and what I want from life.
For those on my course, all fantastic, diverse and interesting people I think we all found we had discovered we have been using some of the skills already but to know that you have them is really worthwhile.
So what is NLP?
Using language to shift from a problem state to a resourceful state
that it is helpful and healthy.
That's a bit basic for the purposes of a blog that's enough.
So where to start?
What's something I can share with you right now
that will make a difference to you now?
How about presuppositions? What are they?
Well kind of personal rules for interacting in the world.
They change how you are with other people...
  1. Every behaviour is motivated by positive intention. In other words, you do the best you can with the information you have on hand at that time. Also every action we make has an outcome that we view as positive - it may not be my idea of positive but to you it will be.
  2. Respect each person's model of the world. We are all different even those we are most close to. We all view the world differently and that's wonderful.
  3. The element in a system that has the most flexibility will be the catalyst for change. If you are able to be open to all options and are able to change course as needed you will be the person who is able to create change effectively.
  4. The meaning of your communication is the response you get. So you know when you ask a question and you get an answer that is not quite what you are were expecting, well it's you who needs to clarify your question. We are in control of the answer we get.
  5. Individuals have all the resources they need to achieve their desired outcomes. Yup, you do.
  6. All outcomes are achievements. There is only feedback. Feedback is awesome to receive, thank your lucky stars people want to give feedback, even when they are not particularly skilled at it.
  7. The map is not the territory. What you see about a person is not everything that they are.
  8. Effective communicators accept and utilise all communication presented to them.

That's a good start to understanding yourself and how you are in the world.
