and so it goes

Yesterday at work the Boss returned from Hamilton. We sat down and had a catch up about the events over the weekend - talk about it, get it out of the way and get back to work.

As he sat by my desk his knees bushed against it every once in a while. Everytime, everytime this happened I tensed without realising why. A slight movement of my desk reminded me of the untold number of tremors we've been having. I said this and the Boss he said how in Hamilton the floor below the one on which his meeting was, was being renovated and the periodic shakes and shudders had him on edge the whole time. Cora Begora went to Wellington yesterday for a three day course and when the wind buffets the building she's in she tenses.

It's hard work being vigilant.

Last night a text came round saying the "A friend knows someone in Civil Defense and the big one will hit in the next hour or maybe not so have your torch ready". I got so annoyed for so many reasons at getting this txt;
  1. there is no logic in it - if geologists could predict this one why hell did they not predict the original one?;
  2. if it were real, then surely Civil Defense would warn everyone themselves;
  3. it's just scaremongering, panic making stupidity;
  4. what the hell is a torch going to do other than light the way afterwards - the "warning" txt made it sound like we should all shine torches at the nasty earthquake to make it go away like the Carebears did with that belly thing they did.

So as you can read I'm getting increasingly tired and scratchy. Two strong tremors, enough to wake me last night, although I now wake up and go "Oh ok, earthquake, never mind" so it's not the tremors that are the stressor, it's the lack of normality and the constant tension.

Although red letter day today - we don't need to boil our water anymore! You have no idea how good this is... it's not just the effort it takes. It's because the power or water can cut out at anytime so you need to be vigilant on how much drinking water you have prepared. So I've found myself slightly thirsty all the time as I try to conserve drinking water for a time when it may not be plentiful. This forward planning thing is enough to do your head in.

I'm working from home today so I can have a nap when I need to.
