obit for the lambies

Last August we had cute as lambs Penelope Darling and Clary.

So, so cute.

Today we had two huge lambs that were a big pain in the butt.
pooping everywhere,
eating every plant in sight,
even when there was feed for them.

Clary in particular is a literal pain in the butt
when he bunts you in the back of the legs.

Today we got two carcasses
one big fat lambie
one little dainty lambie
and soon a freezer full of lamb meat.

When we actually pick the freezer up that is.

Pete the sheep killer came and
quick as a flash the lambies were dead on the back lawn.

That's Pen Pen getting her leggys cut off so she can be hung,
that's Clary in the background.

Once she is skinned and her oesophagus is tied off
she was hung on two hooks
and the real work of cleaning her up started.

Here she is hooked up and slit open

and skinned.
Below is Clary on the hook and Luke is taking his guts out.
We didn't want the guts cause that would be gross.
See guts on the ground.
That's a lot of guts, like about 16 kgs of guts
so Clary's carcass weight would be about 20kgs
and Penny's about 10kgs - she's so little.

For those of you going yuk!  Gross! Make me sick why don't you!
Where you get your meat from isn't too different from this
so my take on this is if you like eating meat
then you should learn to raise your own meat
and then pike out and
get someone else to slaughter them.

I reckon this cost me about $300 for everything
and I know exactly what they have eaten and where they have been.
I know they had a good, peaceful life
and were loved very much.

Now for why I did this.......
