EQC

yes it was claim time again in the Russell household.

Finally got annoyed enough
with the latest aftershock
5.3 at 5.50pm on Saturday
that I put another
insurance claim in with EQC.

The bedrooms now have spiderweb cracks in the ceiling,
there isn't a door or window frame that doesn't have cracks radiating from the corners,
the damage from October has gotten worse.
My kitchen benches are no longer attached to the walls
and today is freezing,
the french doors are more than a centimeter apart
on the south side of the house
so it's like Antarctica is invading my house.

Can't complain so many people have it worse than we do.
Had to laugh reading an article in the paper this morning
about a poor, poor couple
who got their third dose of liquefaction
on Saturday evening,
this time mixed with raw sewerage.
They are building a house in Leeston
where we just shimmy our way to damage,
but no liquefaction* or sewer breaks.

And I'm still sick.
It might be the flu now.
I'll be in bed if anyone needs me
forgive my weepy eyes and runny nose.
Actually I'm quite excited about the runny nose
that's so unusual for me.

*Please God, that's a fact to date, there has been no liquefaction out here so if that can remain that way I'd appreciate it, ta.

  1. My prescription to you is hot water bottle, lemon drinks, vicks on chest and soft flannelette sheets.
We had an earthquake last night and it was awful. I can't begin to imagine how you are coping.
